The short version

  • Ideogram Vector turns a prompt or an image into a scalable, editable SVG.
  • You can recolor artwork and adjust individual shapes, then open the file in design software.
  • The browser Vector screen and the API are separate entries, and plan limits are not spelled out in the launch materials.

A vector model, not another bitmap

Generate clean, editable SVGs with smooth gradients and sharp typography from a text prompt, or turn any image into a detailed, scalable vector.

Ideogram Vector is the company's first model built to emit SVG artwork you can keep editing. The official page frames the output as ready for logos, print designs, and illustrations: scalable files you bring into the next project, with control over individual shapes.

On the page, a hot dog rocket illustration stays crisp as it is magnified, a samurai cycles through red, blue, green, gold, and purple, and an accent in a pink wordmark is selected, resized, and rotated. That is the pitch in three moves: sharp at every size, brand colors you can swap, and shapes you can refine one at a time.

  • Logos and branding

Wordmarks and brand marks meant to be recolored and reused across sizes.

  • Typography

The launch highlights sharp type inside the SVG, not type baked into a flat picture.

  • Illustrations

Detailed drawings you can scale from a small label up to a large poster.

  • Print, merch, labels, and stickers

Artwork for goods where one design has to hold up at several physical sizes.

Start from a sentence or from a picture

The Vector page on ideogram.ai offers two creator paths: start with an idea, or start with an image. Text to vector is a written description of the design. Image to vector takes artwork you already have and turns it into a detailed, scalable vector. Use that Vector screen rather than the ordinary image generator if the file you want is an SVG.

With an image focused, hovering a shape highlights its outline, and the arrow keys step through shapes so you can inspect the structure. A simple, limited-color icon is an easier first subject if you want to see how shapes and fills behave before you try a dense, photo-like picture. That is a practical way to learn the file, not a measured quality score.

What you should check after export

An SVG stores shapes, so the same artwork can grow from a small label to a large poster with crisp edges, and you can change colors and individual shapes afterward. Ideogram positions the files for editing in design software such as Figma or Illustrator. After you export, open the file yourself: look for stray shapes, confirm the lettering is the form you wanted, and check that it still reads when it is small.

A generated file, a trademark you can ship, and a graphic that looks identical in every app are three separate questions. Compare the result with existing logos, confirm rights in any lettering or source image, and read Ideogram's terms before you treat the SVG as a finished brand mark. Public materials also do not show that every account can use Vector for free without limits, so check the allowance and price after you sign in.

The API waits, then returns the file

Build with Ideogram Vector through the API.

Developers get a separate door from the browser canvas. The API covers text to vector and image to vector. You need an API key. The documented flow sends the request, returns a generation ID, and expects you to check back for the finished result.

A dry_run mode validates the input and estimates the charge without creating the image. Use it to confirm the request shape and the cost before you wire generation into an app. Plan quotas and per-call prices are not listed in the announcement, so read the current API docs on ideogram.ai before you budget a integration.

How to try it

  1. Open the Vector screen

Go to the Vector page on ideogram.ai and choose the creator there, so you are generating SVG rather than a standard bitmap.

  2. Prompt it or vectorize an image

Describe the design in text, or supply an image to convert. A flat icon with few colors makes the shape structure easier to judge on a first try.

  3. Inspect shapes, then export

Hover to highlight an outline and use the arrow keys to move between shapes. Adjust colors and individual forms, export the SVG, and review it in your design app.

  4. Or call the API

With an API key, send a text-to-vector or image-to-vector request, keep the generation ID, and retrieve the result when it is ready. Run dry_run first if you only want a validation and a price estimate.

FAQ

Is Ideogram Vector free without limits?

The launch materials do not show unlimited free use for every account. Check the allowance and pricing in your account and in the API docs.

Can the SVG go straight out as a logo?

You get editable artwork, which is separate from clearance to use it as a trademark. Check similarity to existing marks, rights in the text and source image, and Ideogram's terms first.
