The short version

  • Tap or press space when the swinging hammer is directly over the nail.
  • Perfect streaks store power for up to 1.5 times the depth, and that same power makes a miss bend harder.
  • You are scored on centimeters driven, accuracy, and speed; too much bend flops the nail, and too many corrections snap it.

One long nail and a restless hammer

I made a simple game about driving a fairly long nail in straight. You can play it right away in the browser.

Flehmen built Straight Nail Hammer as a one-screen timing toy: a hammer rocks left and right above a single long nail, and your only job is to strike when it passes dead center. The page asks a blunt question, how many centimeters you can drive in before the nail gives up.

There is no level select and no second tool. You start the round, ride the swing, and live with the shape of the nail you just made. That narrow loop is the whole appeal, closer to a carnival strength tester than to a workshop sim.

Center hits, bends, and the power trade

The hammer keeps sweeping across the nail head. Strike the instant it is straight overhead and the nail stays true. Strike while the head is off to one side and the nail bends toward that side. A later hit with the same amount of offset on the opposite side brings it back.

Strings of dead-center hits fill a power meter, and the next blow can drive up to 1.5 times as deep. The catch is printed into the rule: while that power is stored, an off-center hit also bends the nail more. A small miss marked Good, or a straightening hit marked Nice!, still adds a little power. The meter fades as time passes, falls hard on a large offset, and drops to zero if you miss the nail entirely.

  • Perfect

Dead-center taps keep the nail straight and are what stack power for a deeper single blow.

  • Good

A small offset bends the nail slightly toward that side and still stores a little power.

  • Nice!

An equal offset on the opposite side straightens the bend and adds a little power too.

How the nail fails and how points land

Bend the nail too far and it flops over in a soft collapse. Yank it left and right too many times trying to save it and it snaps; that break ends the round. Chasing the 1.5-times depth only pays off if you can keep the next swings honest.

The result card scores the length you drove, your accuracy, and your speed. It lists points, centimeters, accuracy as a percent, seconds, and how many perfect hits you landed, then compares that total with your best. A new best is called out on the card, and you can go again, share a result image (the page confirms when the image is copied), or jump to other games on the same site.

What you doWhat happens
Perfect streakPower builds; one hit can sink up to 1.5 times deeper
Offset while poweredThe nail bends farther than an unpowered miss
Large offsetPower drops sharply
Complete missPower resets to zero
Bend too farThe nail flops over
Repeated left-right fixesThe nail snaps and the round ends

How to try it

  1. Open the round

Go to unboring-studio.com and start hammering. The hammer is already swinging over the nail, with power and a straightness readout on screen.

  2. Strike on the center line

Tap, or press space, only when the hammer is directly above the nail. Early perfects are safer than forcing a powered hit you cannot follow.

  3. Match any bend on the other side

If the nail leans, wait for an equal offset on the opposite side. That Nice! correction straightens it, but do not ping-pong forever or the nail snaps.

  4. Read the card and go again

When the nail fails, check centimeters, accuracy, time, perfect count, and whether you beat your best, then start another round from the same page.

FAQ

Can a bent nail be straightened?

Yes. Hit with the same offset on the opposite side. That shot is marked Nice! and still adds a little power. Too many reversals snap the nail and end the round.

Does stored power only help?

No. Consecutive perfect hits let one blow drive up to 1.5 times deeper, and that same charge makes an off-center hit bend the nail more.
